Rutland Railroad Whiting Depot and Milk Station

Similar in design to the Rutland's Addison Branch stations at Shoreham and Orwell (our kit RCS-SS2), the Whiting Depot was unique in that it was the only station of this type with an attached milk room.  While the majority of the fluid milk shipped by rail after WWII was via railcars equiped withlarge bulk tanks, many small farms continued to ship milk and cream to the traditional 40 qt. milk can right up until the end of rail service.  As Whiting is right in the heart of dairy country, it appears that the depot handled a sufficient number of milk cans to warrant the construction of the additional storage space.  This kit features Grandt Line detail castings and Vintage Reproductions signs.
