RCS-R383 Rutland RR 40' Milk Car (Series 383-399)
In 1926-27 Rutland shop forces converted twelve of the 1875-1899 series MDT-built 40' refrigerator cars into milk cars for can service. The converted refrigerator milk cars were renumbered as series 388-399. Two additional reefers were converted into milk cars in 1948 (renumbered 383 & 384). The converted milk cars are easily distinguished from the standard freight refrigerator cars by the small vents located just above the side doors and their lack of roof-mounted ice hatches. Additionally, some of the converted reefers were equipped with horizontal braces attached to the ends of the car body.
This kit features a thin-wall, one-piece car body and includes Tichy Train detail parts. Trucks and couplers are not included. The correct trucks for this car are Andrews trucks with leaf springs.
